An IFS intensive gives you unhurried space to connect deeply with parts, witness and process trauma, and build a strong relationship with your Self.

What is an intensive?

An intensive is a powerful experience that provides space and time to connect deeply and process more in an extended session instead of being spread out over weeks or months with traditional weekly therapy. Instead of meeting weekly, we would set aside an intentional block of time - 3 hours or 2 days - for a concentrated therapeutic experience that isn’t interrupted by the therapy hour ending. This allows space for people to delve deeper and resolve more in a shorter period of time.

How does an IFS intensive work?

Before your intensive, we will meet for a 90-min pre-intensive session, where I will start with developing a comfortable relationship with you and your internal system, we will acknowledge and address any parts of you that have concerns about the intensive and make sure you feel ready to begin. We will also explore what life looks like for you currently (current challenges and stressors, your support systems and environment, and identify what your system is needing most from our time together).

During your intensive, I will guide you to connecting with the parts that are needing you most and help you connect with them from a place of Self. Our time together will be focused on our intention and what your parts are needing most, whether that is establishing a deeper connection with a part, understanding and resolving conflict or polarization between parts, or witnessing and unburdening parts that are carrying pain. Before you leave, we will provide closure for you and your parts and discuss a plan to maintain growth and connection with parts.

After your intensive, we will meet for a 90-min follow up session to reflect on your intensive, check in with parts, and explore integrating them into your life moving forward.

Painful childhood experiences, including abuse, neglect, attachment trauma, and more

Grief and Loss

Life Transitions

Current life stressors related to work, relationships, or unexpected challenges

Connection with yourself including self-esteem issues

Neurodivergent and Highly Sensitive Persons that need more time to process overwhelming emotions

IFS is a transformative therapeutic approach developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz. IFS recognizes that you are not one single self, but innately made up of many inner parts, each with their own feelings, beliefs, and story. At the center of IFS is the concept of Self: a centered, calm, compassionate core that exists in every person. Through IFS therapy, we don’t seek to eliminate or control parts, we seek to meet them with curiosity, understand their stories and emotions, and help them release burdens and beliefs that no longer serve them, resulting in more connection, balance, and internal harmony.

What is IFS?

How is an IFS intensive different from weekly therapy?

1 Session a week usually 55 minutes

Often includes time to check in and reorient to the therapeutic space

Slower progress for complex issues

Great for ongoing support and integration over time

Part of weekly routine

Weekly IFS Therapy

3-6 hours of focused therapy

Increased clarity and resolution in shorter time

Great for stuck feelings, transitions, processing a traumatic event, or wanting a deeper understanding of your internal system

Intentional time set aside for in-depth therapy

More Information

  • Depending on your goal for the intensive.

For someone new to IFS, a 1-day intensive can help you better understand IFS as a whole and give you a solid understanding of the model, practice of identifying and connecting with your parts, and practice of connecting from a place of Self.

For someone that is familiar with IFS, a 1-day intensive can help resolve a polarization or stuck feelings, witness and unburden a part holding pain, or help you understand and resolve blocks coming up in weekly therapy.

Though deep and significant trauma healing can occur in a 1-day intensive, Complex Trauma deserves more than a 1-day treatment. Many clients experiencing Complex Trauma may continue to provide space to their internal systems through weekly therapy or multiple intensives spread over time.

  • A 2-day intensive can support powerful change and healing in a shorter period of time. This may include feeling resolve with multiple stressors, unburdening and reintegration of multiple parts, or building a solid foundation for healing from Complex Trauma.

2-Day intensives are similar to going to a personal retreat where there is focused time and energy to reflect, learn, and heal. During the initial consultation, we will discuss and identify which format is best for you and your internal system.

  • Unfortunately, insurance does not cover the cost of intensives.

  • Both!

Intensives are offered in person in Ketchum, ID right in the heart of the Sun Valley area. Online is offered for those located in Idaho, Montana, and Colorado.

  • You can still do an intensive, but it may require some travel! I am unable to do an intensive while you are physically located outside of one of those states. Some people prefer to travel for their intensive and add on time to enjoy Sun Valley or as a personal retreat for just the intensive.

  • Yes!

An intensive doesn’t have to replace your weekly therapy and can be a powerful addition to your weekly therapy. Some people choose an intensive to support their weekly therapy for multiple reasons:

    • Having more time to go in depth on something that needs more time than a therapy hour can offer.

    • Getting another perspective or more support on a barrier or road block coming up in regular therapy.

    • Having a regular therapy space to further integrate and develop on what they experienced and learned in the intensive.

  • The first step is to schedule a free 30-minute consultation with me through my scheduling portal linked below. We will meet virtually for your consultation through a secure telehealth platform. During your consultation, we will discuss the intensive process, explore your focus and intentions for the intensive, and address questions you have.

If we both feel that the intensive is a good fit for you, we will look at dates for scheduling your intensive. A $300 deposit is due at the time of booking your intensive experience and the remaining balance will be charged the day before your intensive starts.

Cancellation Policy: Cancellations or rescheduling is required at least 2 weeks before your intensive to receive a full refund for your deposit. If you cancel with less than 2 weeks notice, you may use your deposit for a future service at Mindful Counseling.
